Getting Started
Do I need an account?
No. Interval Timer has no login, no signup, no account of any kind. Open the app, set your intervals, press start. Your settings stay on your device.
Is the app free?
Yes. The core app is free with no ads. Choose yearly Pro or a one-time lifetime Pro purchase, with no account required. Both add the AI Coach, advanced timer modes (EMOM, AMRAP, For Time, Pyramid), exercise packs, Pro sound packs, and unlimited saved programs. Standard interval mode and heart-rate display stay free. Existing lifetime purchases remain valid. Prices are shown in the app before purchase. The yearly subscription renews automatically unless canceled; manage or cancel it in the App Store subscription settings.
Why does the app require iOS 26?
We use iOS 26-only APIs to keep the timer reliable in the background (HKWorkoutSession on iPhone) and to render the Liquid Glass interface. Older iOS versions cannot run these features and we do not ship a fallback build.
Pro Purchases
What do yearly and lifetime Pro cost?
In Germany, yearly Pro costs €4.99 per year and lifetime Pro costs €14.99 once. Both unlock the same Pro features. Prices in other countries may differ; the App Store shows your local price before you confirm. There is no free trial.
Do I keep my existing lifetime purchase?
Yes. If you previously bought the one-time Pro unlock, you keep lifetime Pro access without another payment or a subscription. The new lifetime price applies to new purchases.
How do I cancel yearly Pro?
Open iPhone Settings, tap your Apple Account, then Subscriptions and Interval Timer. Cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date. Pro remains available until the paid period ends. Deleting the app does not cancel the subscription. Lifetime Pro has no recurring payment.
How do I restore Pro on another device?
Use the same Apple Account that purchased Pro, then choose Restore Purchases in Interval Timer’s Settings or purchase sheet. An active yearly subscription or a valid lifetime purchase restores Pro. Contact support if access still does not appear.
Can I share Pro with my family?
Both purchase options support Apple Family Sharing. Access depends on your family’s Apple sharing settings and the purchase or subscription remaining valid. Restore Purchases can refresh eligible access.
Audio & Haptics
Will the timer interrupt my music?
The app lowers other audio while playing workout cues. Music apps that support mixing and ducking can keep playing; some audio apps may be interrupted by their own audio-session settings.
Can I turn off the voice prompts?
Yes. Open Settings inside the app. Toggle off "Announce rounds" (off by default) and "Announce exercise names" (on by default). Beeps and haptics stay on independently.
Do I get a haptic if my phone is in Silent Mode?
Silent Mode does not mute Interval Timer’s workout audio. Set the media volume and audio options to suit your workout. iPhone haptics work while the app is active in the foreground; iOS suspends them when the phone is locked or the app is in the background. Use the Apple Watch workout for wrist haptics in the background.
Live Activities & Widgets
The Lock Screen or Dynamic Island countdown doesn't appear. Why?
Live Activities are a permission. Open iOS Settings -> Interval Timer -> turn on "Live Activities." iOS also limits how many Live Activities can run at once across all apps; if too many are active, the system can refuse new ones. When that happens the app shows a one-time info toast.
How do I add the Home Screen widget?
Long-press your Home Screen, tap the +, search for "Interval Timer," and choose the widget size. The widget shows your last workout settings; tapping it opens the app to the Setup screen.
Can I start the timer from Control Center?
Yes. Open Control Center, tap the + in the top-left to edit, find "Interval Timer," and add the control. Tapping it launches the app with your last-used settings.
Apple Watch
Does the Watch app work standalone?
Yes. Install the Watch app and you can run a timer entirely on the Watch - no iPhone required. Watch-recorded workouts save to HealthKit directly from the Watch.
Why don't my iPhone settings appear on my Watch?
Settings sync from iPhone to Watch via Apple's WatchConnectivity. Sync is one-way (iPhone -> Watch) and latest-wins - only the most recent settings carry over. If the Watch is unreachable, the next sync delivers when it wakes. If your Watch is on a different Apple ID or the Watch app is not installed, sync will not run.
Does my heart rate show during a workout?
With Health permission and a supported source, live heart rate appears during your workout on iPhone and Apple Watch. Supported sources include Apple Watch and AirPods Pro 3. The basic heart-rate display is free; it does not require Pro.
Workout History & Apple Health
Where are my past workouts stored?
Apple Health is the source for saved workout history. Interval Timer also keeps local history summaries for the iPhone and paired Apple Watch. HealthKit records, workout-count ranges, and streak values are not sent to Firebase Analytics. See the Privacy Policy for details.
I declined Health access. Can I still use the timer?
Yes, but workouts will not be saved to Health, heart-rate readings cannot be shown, and the timer falls back to keeping the screen awake instead of running in the background. To enable later: iOS Settings -> Health -> Data Access & Devices -> Interval Timer.
My workout finished but isn't in the Apple Health app. Why?
Check that workout saving is enabled in the app and that Apple Health allows Interval Timer to write workouts. A discarded workout is not saved. Allow time for Health to refresh, especially after a Watch workout. If saving failed, keep any error message and contact support.
Privacy & Data
What data does Interval Timer collect?
No account is required. Firebase Analytics is optional and stays off until you opt in. If enabled, it processes pseudonymous identifiers and the limited usage and purchase data described in our Privacy Policy. Our Analytics events do not include workout sessions, timing, counts, heart-rate information, Health permissions, streaks, or Coach inputs. This release removes Firebase Crashlytics and its Crash reports switch. Earlier uploaded reports are not deleted by the update. Apple processes purchases and optional location services. Support email is handled through Google Workspace; we receive the address and information you send.
Do you sell my data?
No. We do not sell personal information or use it for advertising tracking. Apple provides purchases and system services; Google Firebase processes optional Analytics data and historical Crashlytics uploads as described in our Privacy Policy.
Can I see what gets sent?
Our app-defined Analytics events cover onboarding and Pro paywall, purchase, restoration, and entitlement flows. Automatic screen reporting is off. Firebase may still automatically measure generic app lifecycle and StoreKit purchase events when Analytics is enabled. Advertising identifiers and ad personalization are disabled, but Firebase still uses pseudonymous identifiers. Turn Analytics off in Settings to stop collection and reset its local data. This does not delete data already uploaded. This release contains no Crashlytics SDK and sends no new reports through that service. See the Privacy Policy for categories and retention, including reports uploaded by earlier versions.
Does the AI Coach send my data anywhere?
No. The AI Coach (a Pro feature) runs on your device using Apple's on-device model (Apple Intelligence). The goal, equipment, and muscles you pick - and the workout it builds - stay on your iPhone. Nothing is sent to us or any server. If your device does not support Apple Intelligence, the Coach still builds the workout on-device with a written narrative.
Troubleshooting
Timer stops or skips when I lock my screen
Most likely Health access is denied - without HealthKit, the app cannot use a workout session and falls back to keeping the screen awake (foreground only). Fix: iOS Settings -> Health -> Data Access & Devices -> Interval Timer -> enable Workouts (write).
No beeps during the workout
Check media volume, the selected sound settings, and the current Bluetooth or AirPlay audio output. Silent Mode alone does not mute workout audio. Test a short timer while the app is open before starting your workout.
No haptics during the workout
iPhone haptics stop when the app moves to the background or the phone is locked. For wrist cues while the phone is locked, run the workout with Apple Watch. If foreground haptics are missing, check the app’s haptic options and iOS Sounds & Haptics settings. Restart the app after ending the workout if needed.
Watch shows different settings than iPhone
Sync may have lagged because the Watch was unreachable. Fix: open the iPhone app, change any setting and change it back - this re-triggers the latest-wins sync. If sync still does not apply, restart both apps.
My music gets cut off instead of ducked
Some audio apps use non-mixable sessions (a few podcast apps do this) and will be interrupted rather than ducked. Fix: use Apple Music, Spotify, or any major streaming app - these support ducking. We never stop your audio on purpose; we only duck.
The Live Activity never appears on the Lock Screen
Most likely the permission is off, or iOS is throttling because too many Live Activities are active across all your apps. Fix: iOS Settings -> Interval Timer -> turn on Live Activities. If already on, restart the iPhone - the Live Activity budget resets.
The Home Screen widget shows old numbers
iOS refreshes widgets opportunistically, not on demand. Fix: open the app once and the widget reads the latest values from the shared App Group store.
The app reopened on the home screen mid-workout
The app may have crashed or been terminated by iOS. On relaunch, Interval Timer clears stale workout sessions and Live Activities and returns to setup instead of resuming partway through an interval. Check Apple Health for any saved workout and contact support if this happens again.
